Since piloting Dance Mama Live! back in 2019, we are excited to bring back the live and in-person element to this programme. We are delivering 3 in-person, hybrid sessions with partners across the 10-month programme. Birmingham (One Dance UK), London (Sadler's Wells) took place earlier in the year and Leeds (Northern School of Contemporary dance) is our finale.
What does this mean?
-
We will be presenting the adults workshop with Hannah and Drew Wintie-Hawkins of York Dance Space at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD)
-
We are providing a children's performance of Hawk Dance Theatre's The Greatest Robot Ever and workshop, running alongside the adults workshop at NSCD.
-
We will be delivering a webinar with a live audience with renowned choreographer, Balbir Singh and Anna Ehnold-Danailov, Co-CEO and Artistic Director of Parents & Carers In Performing Arts Campaign.
-
We will be Zooming the sessions, so if you can't be there in person you can join us virtually.
-
All adult sessions will be recorded and available as replays after the event.
-
20% discount (reduced price is £16) on tickets for One Dance UK members - the discount code will be circulated by this organisation and is to be used at the check-out when booking online on the Dance Mama site.
Read on to find out how this will work, and what else we are providing:

About the adult's workshop York Dance Space Founders, Hannah and Drew Wintie-Hawkins lead this creative dance session for parents in dance - in person at NSCD, Leeds and online via Zoom. Both graduates from London Contemporary Dance School Hannah and Drew had extensive performing careers before moving back to Hannah's home town York to create their own independent dance organisation as well as starting their own family.
About the children's show and workshop Whilst you get a chance to dance, your children can get their robot on and meet The Greatest Robot Ever, presented by Hawk Dance Theatre & The Knotted Project. Following this energetic, fun and entertaining dance theatre work made for children, join Choreographer, Josh Hawkins and company dancer, Natalie for an interactive workshop based on the performance.
FAQs about the adult sessions
Please see our usual FAQs which will apply to this in-person and online, hybrid event.
Please note that the children's workshop runs concurrent with the adult's workshop only. We expect children to be in the room during the webinar and know that parents/carers will be responsible for their children at this time. Do bring toys and snacks (as you usually would) as outlined below under 'Do I need to bring anything.'
Bringing your child to the children's workshop and show
Responding to who attends, our inclusive workshop and show will be for children aged 3 - 7 years (negotiable dependent on participant need) who will be able to use the toilet independently. It will be a great chance for your children to move and be creative whilst you are developing your dance skills. It is advisable to bring a bottle of water and a snack.
The session will take place in the studio next door to the adult workshop. Our staff will guide families to drop-off and collection.
Can I bring my child into the adult sessions?
This is a personal choice and we want to make everyone welcome without childcare being a barrier to participate. At the same time, we also understand that some of you may prefer your child not to be with you. You will be asked to indicate your intentions through the booking process.
We are happy to have children in the space when we are hosting our webinar, but attendees need to remember that the webinar content is aimed at adults, not children. Participants are encouraged to bring some favourite toys for your children with you for this session (blocks, cars, books or if digital on 'silent' mode etc.).
For the dance workshop, if people would like to have their baby with them, then we welcome this. We are providing a workshop for children alongside the adults to enable children aged 3 upwards to have a session more geared towards them and give you the freedom to work on your own practice.
Alternatively, you may want to have the day out for yourself and leave your child with a trusted relative or friend.
Can I just come with my child to the children's show and workshop?
Yes, one ticket = 1 adult and up to three children (£10 per ticket). We have opened up this part of our programme for families who don't necessarily have a dance professional parent.
Do I need to bring anything?
Not that you will need to much reminding, as a parents backpack is usually full to the brim (!) - please bring any nappy changing equipment (including a portable mat), small toys, snacks and drinks to support your children if they come with you to the event.
